On New Years Eve all the kids had plans so Terry and I volunteered to watch Gus while the kids went out. I was worried how he would react when all the fireworks would start going off but he loved it he just went out on the deck and watched them.
From now on there will be lots of random pictures of my girls and Grae...haha But this is my family history/diary so it's really for me anyway.
Jaice finally finding time to touch up Jantzyn's hair.
Gma and Gpa Cowley getting to hold Grae for the first time.
While Kiel was holding Grae he had the first of what would be many projectile vomiting instances. By Sunday night Jay and Jake knew something wasn't right and took him to their night light pediatric doctor who immediately told them she thought she knew what it was but that they needed to go to the emergency room and have a ultra sound on his stomach to make sure. After they put another iv in his head to get him going so he wouldn't get dehydrated from all the throwing up they were able to have the ultra sound done and then confirmed he had pyloric stenosis and that they could either leave Grae at the hospital and go home and get some sleep and then they would life flight him in the morning or they could go home get packed and head up to Primary Children's that night. Jake was stressed so he called me (by this time it was 12:30 am) and I told him not to have him life flighted they said it wasn't a life threatening thing and he would be fine until they got up there. I don't know if it was because they were young parents they thought they would just go along with the life flight but it would have been so much money for no need. So me Jaice Kiel and Jantz headed over to meet Jake and Jadyn at their house and for Jake and Kiel to give him a blessing. Me, Jake, Jadyn and Grae got on the road at about 2:30 am and made it to Primary's at 7:00 am. Because of Covid they wouldn't even let me in the building so I took the keys and went out to the car to sleep for a while until I knew Jor would be awake and could come get me.
She called at about 8:30 and said they were on there way up. They were going to stop and get some food for me and Jake and Jadyn. They got up to Primary's around 10:15 about 5 minutes after they got there I got a call from Jadyn, she was hysterical and I couldn't understand anything she said. So Jake got on the phone and said that they had tested Grae for Covid (because he was going to get surgery) and his results came back positive and because of that only one parent could stay with him. They told Jake that he could stay (even though he had been there since 7:00 am) until he went in to surgery and then he would have to leave. Jadyn was so exhausted and so stressed I knew that was not going to be easy for her to be alone.
As soon as they took Grae in to surgery Jake called and said he was headed down to Provo to be with us. I sat on the phone with Jadyn while Grae was in surgery and when she got the phone call (they couldn't even come in the room and tell her) that Grae's surgery had gone well and he was going to be fine. I spent lots of time on the phone with her trying to calm her down the rest of the week. At one point she was so distraught from him and her not sleeping at all the night before that I was just so angry I called the hospital and spoke with the social services director. I told her that my daughter was going to have a nervous break down and that the way they handled the whole situation was ridiculous. I just don't understand that once they had positive results for Grae they didn't come back and test both of the parents and if their results were negative they should both be allowed to stay. Instead of just autmatically making one of them leave without even testing him. It's ridiculous that they let him just walk through the hospital spreading it everywhere (if he had it) telling him they could help him get on PUBLIC transportation and stay in PUBLIC hotel. But he couldn't stay in the room (that he had already been in for 8 hours) quarenteed with his wife and child. It makes absoultely no sense to me. I told the director that my daughter is a first time mom with a newborn and was already terrified because he was so sick. And then to just leave her in a room to deal with a baby with tubes coming out everywhere that made it hard to even hold him. And a crappy old rocking chair is all she had to sit in. They treated her like she was a criminal. I told her she was going to end up in the hospital if they didnt do something to help her. She needed her husband. The director told me she would look into it and see if they could make an exception and I asked if she would call me back and let me know but her reply was just "i look in to it." I was so beyond mad. Then to top it off. When all this happened they never even got a chance to take their bags into the hosptial so they were just giving Grae some random formula that he had never had and wondered why he wasn't eating. That morning Jay called and said they wanted Jake to run the formula up to them and that he would have to leave it with sercurity and they would have to take it to her. Jake was done he decided he was just going to go get Jay and Grae and come home there was nothing else they could do there. Jake made it all the way to Jay's door before the nurse stopped him and told him he couldn't be there. He said i am taking my wife and son. They told him they were sorry that the protocal was to protect them and asked if they could just have a couple hours to see if he would eat now that they had his formula. This had been a whole day 1/2 after his surgery btw. Jake agreed to let them try it. Grae ate right away now that he had his formula and they asked if they could just keep him one more night to make sure he pooped. Jake called and jay and she said she thought she could make it one more day. She was just so not in a good place I was so worried about her. But she faught through and he pooped the next morning. Jake head right up and got them. Again they just went through the whole hospital on the way out. I had always heard how amazing Primary Children's was but I was so not impressed with how they handled the whole covid situation. I hope that we a NEVER have to go back there again. And I will never understand why they acted they way they did.

Another horrible tragedy happened the week after we got back from Grae being in the hospital. Was Kiels younger brother Parker took his own life. On Tues Jaice texted me and said that Parker had started a job and on monday night he had come home upset because he had hated it and was very distraught about it. He talked with his mom and Dave about it and they decided it might be best for him to not go back. So on tues he told them he was going to take his uniform back. He never came home and had turned off his phone. Then on wed. Kaleen found a note in his room and had Kiel come over from work, Kiel called Jaice and she went right over. They instantly called as many people as possible to start looking for him. The police wouldn't do anything to help since he hadn't been missing more than 2 days. Even though they had a note. We prayed all day and were trying to hold out for the best. Kiel and Jaice were absolutely sure they were going to find him somewhere just thinking about things. About 2 in the morning Jaice called me and said that they had found Parker in his truck at in a church parking lot in Gunlock and that he was no longer with us. It was so hard to try to comfort her on the phone. Especially since she and Kiel found him. I was so worried about her and Kiel knowing what they saw. We all just cried and cried. On thursday our family went over to Kiels parents and just sat with them. Jay let Kaleen just hold Grae and I really think that helped her a lot. Other than that we just hugged and listened to them. It's so hard to even know what to say. i can't even imagine the pain they were going through. Kiel stepped up and got everything arranged for the funeral. After a couple of days they were able to go to the mortuary and see Parker's body to be able to say good bye. Everyone was going through so many emotions. Anger, sadness, questions about why and what ifs. I know Parker was not my child but Jaice and Kiel are. And we have gotten to be close to Kiels parents. We knew we needed to be there in what ever way we could. We went to the furneral and luncheon on Friday (Bridger drove down for it). And just tried to be there for them as much as we possibly could. The one thing we felt was that Jaice and Kiel were supposed to have met and been together. Everyone in Kiels family werent very close and hadn't been together in a while. Everyone was at their wedding and everyone was Happy at their wedding. In all the pictures of Parker he was always smiling that night. Kiels uncle told Dave Jaice is the angel that brought this family together. And I had been feeling like that all week also. Jaice said her last words to Parker was she told him good luck and his job and that she had had fun playing games with him. Kiel and Parker had been doing a lot together recently too as they hadn't for a while. So I am thankful Kiel has those good memories of him. Even now 4 months later writing this I am crying. I still text and go to lunch with Kaleen a couple times a month. She is really struggling and I know it will be a long time before she will be able to have a little normalcy in her life. She and Parker were extremely close. I just hope time will help heal everyone's wounds. One thing i felt from his funeral was that Parker is still doing work and progressing it is just on the other side. And I know Kiel would love to be able to do his temple work as soon as he is allowed.
